DishPointer is a satellite dish alignment application that allows users to easily and accurately align their satellite dishes. With the help of augmented reality technology, DishPointer simplifies the process of adjusting a dish, saving users valuable time.

The app provides a step-by-step guide, consisting of 9 easy-to-follow steps, to successfully install your dish in just a few minutes. No longer requiring a gyroscope for augmented reality, DishPointer utilizes the accelerometer and magnetometer data to compensate for the absence of a gyroscope. This means that the majority of smartphones can benefit from the augmented reality feature.

In addition, DishPointer includes a module that calculates magnetic declination and compensates for any discrepancy between magnetic north and geographic north, as this is not integrated in most smartphones. This ensures that the app accurately displays the right direction.

DishPointer utilizes your smartphone's sensors, such as the compass and accelerometer, to display the target satellite in space. This allows users to choose the optimal location for their dish or antenna and ensures there are no obstacles, such as walls or trees.

  3. Select your target satellite to calculate orientation parameters
  4. Check that the support of your antenna or dish is vertical
  5. Calculate the polarization and adjust the rotation of the LNB
  6. Adjust the elevation
  7. Display a line indicating the orientation of the target satellite from your position on Google Maps
  8. Use the compass accompanied by a beep to find the right direction of the satellite (available in Pro version)
  9. View the satellite in augmented reality using your camera to validate the location of your antenna or dish (available in Pro version)
  10. Refine the settings

For DishPointer to function properly, it requires access to your smartphone's compass and accelerometer.

Here are some helpful tips:

  • If your smartphone does not have GPS, you can manually enter your latitude and longitude, which can be obtained from Google Maps
  • The compass feature is only essential for the Pro version of the app
  • Recalibrate the compass if needed and avoid placing it too close to the arm of the dish as it may be sensitive to metallic elements. Minimize magnetic interference for optimal performance.

The free version of DishPointer provides all the necessary features to install your dish, including calculating orientation parameters and displaying precise satellite directions on a Maps map.
